Special Solo Acoustic Concert

To conclude its ground-breaking third season, SOPAC presents a special solo acoustic concert with roots-rocker Steve Earle. Set to release a new album (May 12) dedicated to the folk-rock singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt, the Grammy Award-winner promises a performance of personal music that is both familiar and new to his fans. A master storyteller, Earle credits Townes as his formative mentor and inspiration. Don’t miss this exceptional performer in a rare area appearance!

Joe Pug
The latest singer-songwriter to break into the indie scene, Joe Pug will open for the legendary Steve Earle.  Pug initially started his music career, before his senior year as a playwright student at the University of North Carolina. He packed up his belongings and drove the longest route possible to Chicago. Working as a carpenterby day, the 23 year-old Pug spent nights playing the guitar he hadn't picked up since his teenage years.  Using ideas originally slated for a play he was writing called Austin Fish, Pug began creating the sublime lyrical masterpiece that would become the Nation of Heat EP. In May of 2008, Pug played the first headlining slot of his young career to a sold out crowd at Chicago's storied Schubas Tavern. Two weeks later he released the Nation of Heat EP, which has garnered near-universal critical acclaim and established him as one of the most respected songwriters of his generation.
