Classically trained on the piano since the age of 5, Vienna Teng evokes Chopin in her playing, while her breathy and powerful alto brings to mind Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos. Teng released two successful independent albums before making her major-label debut. Her newest offering, Inland Territory, released in April 2009, is a tour de force musically and lyrically. Now on a national tour, Teng comes to SOPAC with the Vienna Teng Trio with a performance that features a collection of new and old works. Featuring the talents of Alex Wong and Ward Williams, the trio captures the uninhibited essence of Teng's style, while incorporating the talents of other artists. This collaborative efforts creates music that is stepped in both classical and pop traditions

Ari Hest
New York based indie artist Ari Hest opens for the Vienna Teng Trio. Noted for his highly publicized "52" project, where Hest set out to compose a new song each week for 52 weeks, Hest is considered a ground-breaking artist in his field. Foregoing a major label contract, Hest became independently produced in order to retain more artistic control over his work. His 2008 album, Twelve Monkeys garnered Hest much critical acclaim and he brings his extraordinary diversity as a singer/songwriter to SOPAC for this intimate performance featuring today's best rising indie stars.
