The Gospel Choir has a 36 year old history at Seton Hall.. For nearly half of its existence, the Seton Hall University Choir has performed under the direction of Reverend Pritchett, a faculty member at Seton Hall. Under his direction, the Choir offers ministry in song, movement arts, spoken word and instrumental performance. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, entertainment, religious or ceremonial purposes and there is a deep spiritual component to each performance.
The Gospel Choir productions are conceived, produced and directed by Seton Hall students. Individual choir members display their gifts in the areas of vocal and instrumental music, spoken word and liturgical dance, drama and the crowd-pleasing military “step/drill” routine called “Solders for Christ”. In “Soldiers for Christ” the members execute intricate and syncopated rhythmical routines involving intricate foot steps, thigh clapping and group movement. Each concert song is accompanied with special choreography.
The Seton Hall Gospel Choir boasts up to student 60 members and offers motivational and spiritual workshops to community churches and organizations. The Choir actively participates with the community and has performed in homeless shelters, community centers, schools and area colleges.
